Received 24 December 2008; received in revised form 19 June 2009; accepted 20 June 2009. published online 22 September 2009.

Abstract

This study triangulated the extrinsic risk factors for inpatient falls from incident reports and nurse's and patient's perspectives. Similar perspectives were shared on the patient-room-design-associated factors. Patients' concerns focused on their needs not being met in time. Fall prevention should have a priority on addressing patients' needs.
